Tantus Mr. Universe Review

I bought the Tantus Mr. Universe dildo over two years ago. At the time, it was my largest toy, and I had to work my way up to it. But even though it no longer presents the same challenge it once did, I keep turning back to it. It’s that good.

At just over 3” wide, the Mr. Universe dildo is one of the largest toys made by Tantus. If you’re new to larger toys, you’ll want to start with something a bit more approachable and work your way up to it. But if you’re ready to break into the realm of advanced toys, it’s a great entry point into the 3” territory.

Mr. Universe is also a good choice if you’re into fisting—or you want to get into fisting. With a head the size of a small fist, and a shaft that tapers even wider, you can use this massive dildo to help ensure that fisting is a comfortable, easy experience. When you’re comfortable with big toys like this one, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy playing with a partner.

Even if you’re not interested in fisting, Mr. Universe is a great option if you’re partial to things on the (very) large side.

I’ve had a chance to use this dildo extensively, and I couldn’t be happier. Let’s get to the details!

About the Tantus Mr. Universe

I love big sex toys—and make no mistake, Mr. Universe is one of them.

Here’s how Tantus describes it on their website:

For those who like to live large, Mr. Universe is an advanced size dildo that proves to be extremely filling and is definitely not for beginners.

“Definitely not for beginners” and “extremely filling” . . . while that might turn off some, reading it made me excited. I was looking for a large toy, and Mr. Universe seemed to fit the bill perfectly. I was able to snag one through a grab-bag deal and save a few bucks in the process. I’ve had it for a long time since then, and I’ve never regretted the purchase.

Mr. Universe specifications

Sometimes, the dimensions of a sex toy in real-life end up being different than the dimensions listed on the website you purchased it from. With smaller toys, that’s not such an issue. But when you’re training to go bigger, every little bit counts! A half-inch could be the difference between a toy that’s just too much and a toy that provides the perfect next step.

Mr. Universe is one of those toys that ended up measuring a bit differently than expected. The Tantus website lists it at a 7” insertable length and a 3” maximum width, but my measurements put the actual toy at closer to 6.5” long and 3.25” wide.

(Interestingly enough, I noticed a similar discrepancy with another large toy from Tantus, the Tex butt plug. Tex was about a quarter-inch wider than expected as well.)

Here are the specs and measurements I took from my Mr. Universe dildo. Take a second to review them to avoid any surprises!

At a little over 3” wide, this is truly an advanced toy. Whether you’re using the Mr. Universe anally or vaginally, it’ll provide a challenge. You’ll probably want to make sure you’re comfortable with toys in the 2.5” range before tackling it.

There is some taper to it. But not much: Mr. Universe’s slightly oval head is close to 9” in circumference (a bit over 2.75” wide). So inserting even just the tip presents a formidable challenge.

I definitely don’t want that to scare you off. This is an amazing toy, and few things compare to the feeling that toys of this size can provide. I’d just hate for it to gather lint in the bottom of your toy box, or for you to get discouraged and give up if you get it before you’re ready.

If you can easily handle toys with 2.5” of width or so, I think you’ll love it. It’s a great tool for working your way up to the three-inch club. And even when you’re there and it’s no longer a major challenge, it remains a ton of fun.

Tantus Mr. Universe design

The Tantus Mr. Universe is a slightly tapered dildo with a circular base. Sporting a large, slightly oval head, it starts off wide and gets wider.

The oval-ish head is a nice touch that makes initial insertion more comfortable. The head has a smooth texture (which really helps get it in initially) before transitioning to a textured shaft with prominent veins. I really like this two-stage approach: it’s one of my favorite parts about this dildo. The textured shaft doesn’t just provide intense sensations. It also holds lube well and keeps everything lubricated.

Textured shafts with exaggerated features like the one you’ll find on the Mr. Universe dildo aren’t for everyone, but if you’re on the fence or haven’t tried one before, I’d encourage you to give it a try—if only for the practical benefits of how well it holds lube, and to see if you enjoy the textured feeling.

Because it’s so large, this probably isn’t a toy you’ll start off your session with. Instead, you’ll want to work up to it with smaller toys, patience, and lots of lube. Most of the size (and the reason it falls into the “advanced” category) comes from its immense girth. Mr. Universe is actually fairly short in proportion to its width. At about 6.5” of insertable length, it’s shorter than many other large dildos.

Mr. Universe doesn’t have any curves or other design components. It is just a thick, squat, straightforward dildo.

Material & feel

Mr. Universe is made out of Tantus’ proprietary silicone. It’s durable, easy-to-clean (you can boil it, use soap and water, and even put it in the dishwasher), and completely body-safe.

Like all silicone toys, this presents one big con: you have to watch out for what lube you’re using. Silicone lubes can react negatively with silicone toys. So when you’re using the Mr. Universe, you’ll want to stick with an oil- or water-based lube.

While Tantus describes the Mr. Universe as super-soft, I’d probably describe it as having a medium firmness. It’s soft enough to give a little when pressed, but the Mr. Universe has no problem supporting itself and overall has very little flop or squish.

In my opinion, this firmness is a strength—it helps when you’re using it as a training tool, it allows you to play hands-free and avoid frustrating floppiness, and it makes for a better experience when thrusting (both solo or with a partner).

My experience with the Tantus Mr Universe

My girlfriend hasn’t used the Mr. Universe yet (she just recently began her journey toward bigger toys!), so we’ll have to wait until she’s worked her way up to it to hear what she thinks.

Most of my experience with this toy comes from solo anal play. That said, I’ve been using this toy for two-plus years—I’ve had plenty of time to form an opinion.

Here are some of the things that have stood out to me.

This toy was a great choice for getting into 3”+ diameter toys

I initially struggled with the size of this dildo. But the smooth head and gentle taper, combined with how easily it holds itself upright, meant that it didn’t take long for me to feel comfortable playing with it.

Once I became accustomed to the width, I was able to gradually work up to more and more depth. I never really experience the same type of rush or burst of sensation with the Mr. Universe as with some other large toys—just a slow build and feeling of incredible fullness as it eased deeper.

Mr. Universe is deceptively comfortable and easy to ride for its size. It’s design makes it a great choice for working up to the 3” wide range, because it starts off easy enough and allows you to grow into the new width territory without running into depth limitations. Other large toys can be floppy or super soft, which makes it harder to work up to them when playing solo. The Mr. Universe doesn’t have this issue.

It definitely works for couple play

Playing with a partner is always different than playing alone, and this toy is no exception.

Adventurous couples can have a lot of fun with it, and it opens up some new position possibilities—like doggy-style, with both hands forward. Its firmness and easy-to-hold base again come in handy, by making it possible for one partner to hold and thrust into the other.

I have an upcoming project idea I’ll hopefully implement for this toy—a custom strap-on harness that can accommodate its width, which will open up whole new type of play for it.

Personally, I find depth more tricky than width when playing with a partner, and I like to be in complete control when doing any deeper play. I’m a fan of how the Mr. Universe isn’t very long, because it makes it easier to let go when playing with a partner.

It’s an effective warm-up (or training) for fisting

If you can handle this toy, you can handle a fist—not to mention a good bit of forearm ;). If I ever have a few weeks or months go by where I don’t play with large toys, I like to take a few sessions to work back into “fighting condition” with the Mr. Universe before getting back into fisting or other large toys.

Playing solo

Because it holds itself up so well, and has such a straightforward shape without curves or anything else to make it lopsided, Mr. Universe is great for solo play.  I’ve really enjoyed how it allows for some hands-free or almost hands-free play. You can ease down onto it without worrying about it toppling over. With enough lube, practice, and body control, you can even ride up and down from this position.

I’ve noticed that the base of Mr. Universe toy provides some weak suction that keeps it from shifting around too much, which helps as well. But if you’re having trouble getting it to stay put, a hand on the wide base more than does the trick.

But riding isn’t the only way to enjoy the Mr. Universe. It takes a little flexibility, but try transitioning to a doggy-style position. If you can reach back with a hand and grab it by the base, you’ll open up a type of play that would be much more difficult (and frustrating) with a wobbly or hard-to-handle toy.

It pairs really well with the Tantus Tex

I purchased the Tantus Mr. Universe around the same time as the Tantus Tex, another extra-large toy (see my review here). While Tantus lists both as 3” wide, I’ve always found the Mr. Universe to be much easier to insert. If you’re right on the cusp of taking the Tex plug, but not quite there, this would be a great option. Even today, I’ll often use the Mr. Universe when I’m warming up for the Tex.

Final verdict

Most of the time, there’s something that could be better about a toy. But it’s hard for me to imagine any such thing with the Tantus Mr. Universe. In my opinion, they really nailed it with this design.

From the material to the shape, it was executed brilliantly. Tantus’ silicone is durable and strong (despite regular use, there are years of life left in this toy), and there’s just something about it that keeps me coming back for more. Maybe it’s the transition from smooth head to textured shaft, or the tapered stretch that can be both gentle and super intense depending on how you use it.

As long as you’re committed to training until you can handle this toy’s massive size (or it’s already within your range) I highly recommend it. Existing size queens and kings will find it a valuable add to their toy box, and aspiring folks looking to break into the 3” range will have their hands full with a rewarding challenge.

Where to buy the Tantus Mr. Universe

I’ve always had a great experience ordering directly from Tantus, and that’s how I got the Mr. Universe dildo. For me, it’s worth it to know I’m ordering straight from the source—and they also have special grab-bag deals that are only available from their site.

Like most large silicone toys, Mr. Universe isn’t cheap—you can generally expect it to run you about $150.

But whether you’re looking for one of your first advanced toys, or you’re an experienced stretcher who really knows what they’re doing, I highly recommend this toy. One last disclaimer: just know that this is a really big toy, and not for newbies or the faint of heart.
