Split Peaches Grenade Butt Plug (Large) Review

One look at Split Peaches’ website is all it takes to see that their toys are a little different than the stereotypical sex toy—and in this review, you’ll see why that’s definitely the case with the large Grenade plug. There’s a consistent theme to their toys: vibrant and playful, and that definitely plays out with this butt plug.

Standard colors from Split Peaches include rainbow swirl, “candy twist,” and glow-in-the-dark green. And standard shapes are unexpected and creative too. From a dildo modeled after a unicorn horn to the aforementioned butt plug that looks like a grenade, Split Peaches toys are interesting, kind of goofy, and fun.

I get it: not everyone wants a unicorn horn dildo or a grenade butt plug. And the bright colors might not be your cup of tea. But it’s refreshing to see a brand that’s not afraid to be a little different.

When I first discovered Split Peaches, I was excited to find out that they carry a few different options for those of us who like things bigger. (They even have a category on their site called “Large Toys.”)

I went ahead and purchased a couple of toys, among them the bright pink Grenade Butt Plug (large). This plug has gotten regular use over the last year or so. I’m excited to share my review!

Split Peaches Grenade butt plug overview

Split Peaches doesn’t have the largest toy selection, and the Grenade butt plug is really the only true butt plug they offer. I opted for the large version (of course).

There are a few different (equally playful) colors you can choose from. I opted for the super-bright pink version.

Here are the specs!

Large Grenade Butt Plug specifications

  • Price: $68
  • Manufacturer: Split Peaches
  • Material: Silicone
  • Colors: Orange, pink, blue/pink swirl, glow-in-the-dark green, and more
  • Total length: 5.5”
  • Maximum width: 2.75”
  • Width at neck: 2.45”
  • Firmness: Medium/firm
  • Skill level: Intermediate

It’s worth noting that measurements from a manufacturer’s website don’t always match up perfectly with the dimensions of the toy you receive. In this case, they were extremely close.

On the Split Peaches website, they modeled the plug next to a soda can for scale. If you’re wondering what 2.75” inches in diameter looks like, this should help.

Material

All Split Peaches toys are made of body-safe, platinum-cured silicone. You can read more in their FAQ.

You can clean silicone toys in a variety of ways, from just washing with soap and water to boiling them. Most of the time, I opt for a simple soap and water wash and dry after playing. The one downside to silicone toys is that you have to watch out for what kind of lube you use. According to several toy manufacturers (including Split Peaches), silicone lube should be avoided. Most of the time, they suggest opting for a water- or oil-based lube.

The Grenade butt plug is on the firmer side of the spectrum for silicone toys. It gives a little when squeezed, but the material isn’t nearly as soft as the Square Peg supersoft silicone or some of the options from Bad Dragon.

It has some give, but it isn’t floppy or squishy. This plug supports itself quite well.

Design

The Grenade butt plug’s most notable design element is its textured exterior. Modeled after its namesake, it has a series of grooves that create a scale-like appearance.

The firmness really comes into play here—you can definitely feel the texture. The sensation isn’t for everyone, of course. Some people will naturally prefer a smooth exterior. And even if you do like it, it might not be your preference for every session.

Overall, I’m quite glad that the Grenade plug has this texture. The deep grooves really provide a unique sensation, and having an intense texture kind of lines up with the Split Peaches brand and aesthetic. They’re not the same as everything else. And that’s a good thing. If every toy were the same, well, that would just be boring.

One other thing I’ve noted with this plug’s design is the shape of its base. It’s a huge plug, so the base is always going to be on the bigger side. But I typically prefer oval-shaped bases to circles. Circular bases, especially on large toys, can be a bit uncomfortable.

(Sidenote: to be honest, there just aren’t that many silicone plugs being made in this size. And the size itself presents some unique design challenges. I personally tend to take the route of grace when a toy doesn’t meet my design preference.)

Other sizes

While I only have experience with the large version of the Grenade plug, there are two other sizes available as well. If the picture above seemed a bit daunting, you might be interested in the medium or small version.

Small Grenade plug

  • Height: 3 3/8″
  • Width: 1 5/8″ at widest point.
  • Price: $31

Medium Grenade plug

  • Height: 4 5/8″
  • Width: 2 1/4″ at widest point.
  • Price: $48

It’s actually really cool that Split Peaches made three sizes of this plug—even if you’re not able to go for the large, you can try it out in a smaller version. And if you really like it, you can always get it in bigger size later, when you have a more experience.

Using the Grenade plug

The large Split Peaches Grenade plug isn’t my go-to butt plug. But I don’t really think it’s meant to be anyone’s go-to toy. Between the large size, being on the firmer side, and the texture, it’s more of a “special occasions” toy. I’ll choose it every now and then, especially when I’m looking to change something up or I’m craving it, but it’s not the first one I reach for.

Warming up for other toys

The large Grenade plug is definitely large, and you’ll want to warm up with other smaller toys before you use it. But what if you regularly play with toys bigger than it? Is it a good choice for warming up  or training for other, larger toys?

That question’s going to depend on how much you enjoy the plug’s texture and design.

I know that it’s not the best choice for me. While I occasionally use it to warm up for toys in the 3″+ range like the Tantus Tex, the Grenade plug creates such an intense experience on its own that it’s just not my favorite for warming up. It’s also a bit hard to clean—lube really gets in all of the creases. So I rarely reach for this one unless it’s going to be the main event.

Thrusting, AKA wow you can really do that?

How do you take an intense experience and make it even more intense?

Add motion. Much like with the Tantus Tex, super-advanced users can get a special experience with this toy by thrusting it in and out. The transition from plug body to base, then back out, is extraordinary and advanced and not for the faint of heart.

It takes a ton of warming up, two tons of lube, and even more patience to get to a place where you can enjoy this type of play, but if you get there, you’re in for a treat. This kind of play can be great training for more advanced fisting.

This should go unsaid, but your safety is your responsibility. Listen to your body and be careful!

It’s great to wear for shorter periods of time

I often wear this plug for an hour or two, and in that time frame it really excels. Unlike the Tantus Ringo, the large Grenade Butt Plug has a moderate to steep taper from plug body to neck. Its proportions work really well and feel natural. Once inserted, this plug doesn’t feel like it’s in any danger of it anywhere.

I also appreciate that it’s on the shorter side, which makes wearing it more comfortable. Some plugs will continue to feel huge after you’ve inserted them. But, in my experience, this one becomes more comfortable after it’s been inserted for a few minutes.

If you’re looking for an intense toy that easily transitions into an hour or so of wear, this is a great choice.

Questions with extended wear

Whenever I’ve tried to wear the Split Peaches Grenade plug for longer than a couple of hours, I’ve found that the circular base becomes a bit uncomfortable. It just doesn’t fit between the cheeks too naturally, and—especially if there’s any movement involved—just doesn’t feel the best.

The texture also isn’t ideal for long-term wear. I usually prefer a smooth butt plug that’s smaller when I’m looking for something to wear for extended periods of time.

On occasion, I have worn it outside on short walks or around the house as I did chores. But it’s just a bit too big for me to want to do this on a regular basis. While the neck and plug proportions are great, the movement makes it just a bit too much for me.

Final verdict

This is a fun, interesting plug. It definitely has some quirks. Quirks that make it *awesome* sometimes, and not what you’re looking for other times.

But even if it’s just a situational toy that you only use occasionally, it’s is an amazing deal.

Large silicone toys are expensive: that’s just how it is. But this one is only $68. That’s a great value.

If you’re on the fence, I’d recommend giving it a try—at this price, you’re not out too much if it doesn’t work out. Who knows? It might become your favorite! If not, you’ll at least get to experience something a bit different with it.

Where to buy the Split Peaches Grenade butt plug

I bought my large grenade plug directly from Split Peaches. That’s my recommendation for a few reasons:

  • You’re more directly supporting a business that’s catering to a niche part of the market—yay!
  • You’re assured of your toy’s authenticity
  • You know that the shipping will be discreet (they ship in a plain box . . . you won’t find “HUGE SEX TOY” blazoned all over it)
