Tantus Tex Review

One of my favorite toys is the Tantus Tex, a 3+ inch wide, trailer hitch–style butt plug. It was actually the first toy I got from Tantus, who have since become one of my favorite silicone toy manufacturers.

I’ve regularly played with the Tantus Tex (and plenty of other large toys!) over the past several years, so I’ve had lots of time to get to know it. In this post, I’ve put together some thoughts on my experience with this plug.

This isn’t a paid review—I’m just hoping to help others find toys that’ll blow their minds. High-quality sex toys are expensive, and it’s tricky business making sure you’re getting something you actually want. So if you’re on the fence and not sure whether or not the Tantus Tex is the right toy for you, I hope this review helps you.

Spoiler alert: I’ve loved it—but it’s intense, and it’s not for everyone.

About the Tantus Tex

The Tantus Tex is an advanced silicone butt plug, suitable for experienced players.

If you’re new to butt stuff, this isn’t the plug for you—not yet. You know your body and where you’re at best, but I’d recommend working your way up until you’re comfortable in the 2.75” to 3” range before tackling this challenge. When you get to that point, it’ll be 100% worth it.

I’ll get to specifications in a minute, but this plug typically ends up being a bit wider than the 3” advertised by Tantus. It’s also rather firm, and its shape makes for a less-than-gradual stretch. Because of these factors, the Tex can feel like it hits above its weight class. Even if you’re able to take other 3” toys, you might be surprised by how much the Tex challenges you.

This is an ideal plug for experienced stretchers who know their bodies and are comfortable with large plugs. Though even those advanced folks will want to go slowly and use lots of lube. (That’s safer and half the fun anyway!)

Besides its size, the first thing you’ll notice about the Tex is that it doesn’t really look like a traditional butt plug. Instead of the standard conical shape, the Tantus Tex is almost spherical. This design has a lot to offer—but it’s also fairly uncommon. If you’re looking for plugs shaped like this in different sizes, you might have a hard time.

Like all of Tantus’ toys, the Tex is made of platinum-cured silicone. Yes, silicone toys are more expensive. But I absolutely believe that the extra cost is worth it to know that you’re getting a safe, nontoxic, cleanable toy.

OK—time to get down to business! Let’s see what this plug is all about.

Tantus Tex specifications

If you’ve ever bought toys online, you know it’s a bit of a gamble—the reality isn’t always the same size as advertised.

To help you out, I took actual measurements of my Tantus Tex plug. I wanted to give you another point of reference so you know just how big it is.

Tantus advertises the Tex as a 3”-diameter plug, but mine turned out to be closer to 3.25” inches at the widest point. That quarter-inch might not seem like much, but once you get to larger sizes, it can make a huge difference.

  • Price: $70
  • Manufacturer: Tantus
  • Material: Platinum-cured silicone
  • Colors: Black, variable
  • Length: 4.5” (this is roughly the insertable length; the total length including base is 5.75”)
  • Maximum width: 3.25”
  • Width at neck: 2.45”
  • Firmness: Medium
  • Skill level: Advanced

At over 3” wide, and with a shape that’s kind of similar to a mostly closed fist, there’s something worth noting about this plug: if you can take the Tex, you’re also most likely able to take a large fist!

Plug design

The Tantus Tex doesn’t follow the standard butt-plug design (check out my review of the Ringo for a large Tantus plug that does). But its trailer hitch, spherical style has some serious merits—and I wish more toys had similar design elements.

It’s wide enough to provide a really sensational stretch. But unlike some other toys in this width range, which often have a length to match their significant girth, the Tantus Tex plug is short enough to stay out of depth-play territory.

In my experience, this also makes it more comfortable once it’s inserted—whether it’s in for five minutes or an extended period of time. Wide and long toys can be a ton of fun—but they’re less suited for play outside of an intense session and they can take more preparation prior to use.

Tex is wide—and because it’s short, it has to get wide fast. There’s not much taper here, which means that it doesn’t go in without work. But it doesn’t just get wide fast—when you hit the widest point, you’ll experience a rapid descent to the base of the plug. I love the intense feeling this design provides—it’s hard to explain the rush of passing the widest part and feeling the rest of the plug get sucked in.

I’ve never felt like there was any danger of the Tantus Tex falling out. Despite its size and weight, it stays in place once it’s in. The neck and base sit fairly comfortably (as far as huge plugs go), and the taper is strong enough that it doesn’t put too much pressure on the sphincter or ease its way out.

Its size means that it’s also a bit heavy, which can create some exit pressure on your hole if you’re wearing it around, but I’ve always found the design more than enough to counteract any danger of it falling out.

Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into with this plug, and don’t expect it to be one you can wear all the time. The Tex plug’s neck is so wide (almost 2.5” diameter) that even when it’s fully inserted, you’ll have an intense stretch to deal with in addition to the fullness from the bulk inside you.

At the very least, this can make it hard to focus when it’s inserted—and it can even prove too much to bear after just a short time. The longest I’ve ever had the Tantus Tex inserted was for a couple of hours . . . and while there’s a part of me that wants to see just how long I could wear it for, it’s never going to be a plug you can insert and forget about. There’s just no getting used to a 3” wide plug.

Of course, the fact that it’s impossible to ignore (who woulda thought, a fist-sized plug commands some attention . . .) isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Once it’s in, I’ve found that the constant stretch and fullness provide a nearly constant state of arousal. When worn often enough, it’s possible to even forget about smaller plugs. There’s no chance of that here.

Tex is firmer than most large toys. This has some pros and cons. If you’re only used to toys this size in a softer material, you’ll likely encounter some difficulty inserting the Tex. But once you’re used to it, the firmness allows you to use this plug in versatile ways—including intense thrusting sessions and hands-free play.

One last note on my experience with the shape of the Tantus Tex: I haven’t had any issues sitting, standing, or lying down with it inserted. Once it’s in, it’s generally comfortable no matter the position.

A couple of things worth noting about this design:

There’s an odd nipple at the top. I’m not sure what it’s for, but it makes Tex look like a boob. I haven’t found any functional pros or con to its inclusion: it’s mostly just a bit funny to look at. Yes, a booblike butt plug is a bit odd, but it made my girlfriend laugh. So the nipple has at least one redeeming quality.

In any butt plug, the base has an important job: it prevents the toy from slipping inside of you completely, which could lead to a moment of panic or even an embarrassing trip to the emergency room. This might make you wonder whether or not Tex’s base is smaller than ideal.

Here’s my opinion and experience: while the base on the Tantus Tex could probably stand to be a bit bigger (maybe even turned into more of an oval instead of a circle), I have never, ever had an issue with this plug slipping all the way inside.

My guess is that it’s extreme girth is one factor that keeps it from slipping deeper, in addition to the sharp increase in width from neck to base. Even when I’ve had an intense session before playing with this toy Tex, I’ve never had a moment where I worried about losing it inside me.

My experience with the Tantus Tex

I’ve used the Tantus Tex plug anally in several different ways: intense sessions with lots of thrusting, for short-term wear (a few times up to a couple hours), and also just for simple insertion to get a “full” feeling.

Most of the time, I’ve used it in solo-play—but my girlfriend has also enjoyed using it on me while we’re playing together. She’s not yet ready for toys of this size herself, so this review will focus on my experience with it.

Here are some additional things I’ve learned about this butt plug.

It’s rather similar to fisting

While nothing will replace the feeling of a real hand inside you, this plug actually feels kind of like a balled up fist.

This is a great training toy for people wanting to make fisting easier or prepare for more intense fisting sessions. If you regularly play with the Tex, you’ll marvel at how much more easy fisting becomes.

I’ll cover more of this later, but if you’re into super-advanced, intense forms of play like punch fisting, you’ll be able to use this plug to simulate and prepare for that experience.

Playing with partners

I’ve used this plug a few times with my girlfriend.

While I’ve always been on the receiving end when playing with it, she’s mentioned how fun it is to see it pop all the way in. The base is easy enough for her to grip, and once it’s in, you can choose to move on to other things or keep playing with it.

I highly recommend getting familiar with the Tex on your own before using it with a partner. The size and firmness make for an interesting experience that you don’t get from too many other toys. In particular, the pop as it goes in can be a bit intense the first time it happens. Since so much of playing with big toys is mental, I’ve always found it best to know what things are like before bringing someone else into the mix.

Thrusting with this plug is an extremely intense experience

Getting the Tex inserted once can feel like a huge accomplishment—and sometimes that’s all the more you want from it..

But if you want to truly conquer this plug and experience all it has to offer, you’ll want to keep going. Thrusting Tex in and out (at whatever speed you’re comfortable with) might just prove one of the most incredible, intense moments of your life. It’s a totally different sensation than one you’d get from a dildo or more gently tapered toy.

It goes without saying, but this kind of play is best left to those who are *super* experienced, know their bodies, and have already gotten to know the Tex in less intense circumstances before. It’s something to work up to, not something to try right away.

Getting there takes time and care. If you’re not there yet, don’t rush things: enjoy the journey. =)

How do you even get it in?

While it doesn’t have a suction-cup base, the Tantus Tex is firm and stable enough for hands-free insertions. Most larger plugs are either too soft or floppy for this, but not the Tex.

Especially when I was just starting with this toy, I enjoyed putting it on a chair or other raised surface, then gently easing myself onto it for an intense sensation and controlled insertion.

Now that I’m more used to it and other larger toys, I can typically insert it with a hand.

Want a super intense / devious hands-free stretch? Insert the Tantus Tex, then position yourself several inches above a chair, the floor, or any other surface. When you push out the toy, it’ll start to exit quickly before getting stopped at the widest point. You’ll feel the full 3-inch stretch, and when it feels like you can’t handle any more, you can ease yourself down just a bit more until it sucks back in.

Wearing it in public

I don’t wear butt plugs while I’m out and about very often, but every now and then the mood hits me and I’ll run a few errands or go on a walk with one in. I’m not going to lie: wearing a butt plug in public can feel extremely erotic and fun.

But the Tantus Tex is no ordinary butt plug. It’s not something you can just insert and forget about. That’s why I’ve only worn it out in public twice, and both times were just quick walks through a quiet neighborhood.

Although I checked extensively in the mirror before I left and I knew that you couldn’t see the giant butt plug through my jeans, I did worry that someone would notice that something was up.

And it didn’t take long for me to quickly realize that this plug is large enough to affect your gait, or at least force you to think about how to walk. What if I dropped something, and had to bend over? What if all the walking made it slip out?

Both walks were successful, in that I enjoyed them and no one was the wiser. But wearing the Tex in public turned out to be less than practical. While the thought of having such a massive plug inserted while was out and about can be hot and enticing, it’s not an easy thing to do.

Sometimes butt plugs can become uncomfortable—maybe from shifting a little, maybe the lube dried out, or maybe your body is just telling you it’s time to be done. Those feelings become more intense and a harder to disregard when you’re dealing with something as large as the Tex. And in public, the plug has to stay in until you’re in a private place where you can adjust it.

As far as large butt plugs go, the Tantus Tex was nicer than you might expect for this purpose.  It didn’t take long to realize that I didn’t have to worry about it coming out or slipping in too far. And the base fit nicely between my cheeks.

So wearing the Tex in public is technically possible. But if you’re going to try it, start with short, short times in areas where you’re unlikely to run into people. And if you’re looking for something to wear more regularly, I’d suggest something a little less gigantic.

(BDSM/kinky folks: not going to lie, if your partner can take this plug and is into it, it might be hot to make ‘em take a lap around the block like a good little bottom. You’re welcome.)

Final thoughts on using the Tantus Tex

Once Tex is inserted, be ready for waves of intense sensations. Early on, I remember the feeling of the initial insertion—how it seemed to just get sucked in—and the resulting constant stretch to be fairly overwhelming. I was glad to have taken my time working up to it over several sessions, and it took me months before I was comfortable doing anything besides a single, short insertion with it.

You’ll want to make sure you’re relaxed, comfortable, and in the right mindset for tackling this beast. But once you know the Tantus Tex well, you’re in for a huge treat. This is a plug you’ll never grow out of.

Verdict: strong buy

This is a fantastic butt plug in the 3” diameter range, one that I’d highly recommend to anyone interested in fisting or large insertions.

I’ve had a great experience using it in a variety of ways, and the high-quality silicone has held up to extended use. It’s also not a bad value: at around $100, it’s one of the more affordable “huge” silicone butt plugs.

The Tantus Tex is a no-frills plug. It doesn’t resemble a fantastical beast or have an intricate design. But don’t let that turn you off. This is a workhorse of a toy, one you’ll find yourself coming back for over and over.

It’s a shame it’s only available in one size. With a few smaller and larger options, it would be more accessible and give some of the more advanced people another challenge.

The only other feedback I have feels minor: extend the base just a little bit, perhaps make it just the *slightest* bit softer, and tell me what the deal with that nipple is.

Where to buy the Tantus Tex

I’ve always had a great experience ordering directly from Tantus, and that’s how I got the Tex plug. For me, it’s worth it to know I’m ordering straight from the source—and they also have special grab-bag deals that are only available from their site.

Check out the Tantus Tex >>

One last tip: while you’re on the Tantus website, you’ll want to browse their grab-bag section. Grab-bag deals are a great way to save a little money if you don’t care about getting your toy in a specific color.

Instead of discarding the silicone in between color changes, Tantus uses it to make toys that come out in mixed, unpredictable colors. These “grab bag” toys are the exact same as their standard counterparts, besides this variable color.  I’ve purchased a number of grab bag toys and been satisfied every time.

Even if there aren’t any grab-bag versions of the Tantus Tex available, you might discover a great deal on another toy you can get at the same time.
